of your life. That's why we
created The All
Access, official destination guide to Cancun. This guide
was designed to bring you up to speed on what’s
happening in Cancun. It is filled with helpful hints
that will make
your trip a better one. Please take time to read it thoroughly
because it can save you time and MONEY!
Drinking
Age – The legal drinking age in Mexico
is 18 years old.
Behavior – It is forbidden to act
indecently in any way in public. examples… (lewd
behavior, public urination, or being unclothed)
Drugs — Just say NO! Drug use in Mexico is strongly
prohibited. Do not buy or sell drugs anywhere. You will
be kicked out of your hotel and will most likely end up
in jail.
Drinking Water – Any restaurant
that offers water or ice will be safe and purified. In
addition, most hotels’ water
out of the tap is purified. However, most students drink
bottled water anyway.
The Buddy System — Although Cancun is considered
safe, we highly recommend the buddy system. Please hang
out in groups, especially when going back to your hotel
at night. Always remember that there is safety in numbers!
Money — The current exchange rate in Mexico is 10
pesos to 1 U.S. Dollar. Exchange your money on a daily
basis at the hotel cashier or at one of the many exchange
booths located around town.
Taxi’s — The taxi’s run all day and night.
They will cost anywhere from $5 - $10 (50 – 100 pesos)
depending on where you want to go. You can take up to four
people in a standard taxicab. We strongly recommend that
you do not ride the taxis alone at night.
Bus System — Buses run 24 hrs a day. They run the
entire length of the hotel zone and cost only 6 pesos or
roughly 60 cents.
Check in – Please verify that your room is in order.
Any damages and or missing items will be charged to you.
If something is not right, report it immediately to the
front desk.
Checkout — On the day of your departure, you will
need to vacate your room and take care of any incidental
balances on your room. You must be in the lobby 3 hours
prior to your scheduled flight departure time. If your
flight is not until late afternoon or evening, checkout
by noon and check your bags at the bell desk. We suggest
some shopping!
Motorized Water Sports — All equipment is owned locally
and any damage to the equipment will be your responsibility.
Be Careful! Many students have been charged for damage
they may not have done. Check the equipment for damage
before using.
Ocean — The Ocean has a strong undertow! During the
day, please check to see if your hotel has warning flags
in front of the beach area. Most hotels will post these
flags to let you know the current Ocean conditions. Please
do not go in the Ocean at night regardless of the posted
flags. It is extremely dangerous at night!
Balconies — Do not sit on the ledge of your balcony
or try and jump balconies from one room to another. Cancun
has experienced fatal injuries in recent years involving
students falling from balconies.
Crossing the street — Be sure and look both ways
as to avoid being hit by moving vehicles. Cancun has experienced
accidents with serious injuries in recent years.
Hotel safe deposit boxes — We strongly recommend
that you put all of your valuables in your safe deposit
box upon check-in. If a box is not provided to you in your
room, you can get one at the front desk.
Mopeds — We strongly recommend against renting mopeds.
Moped collisions are a daily occurrance in Cancun.
